Fees for use of sound recordings deferred

Proposals to remove the exemption from charging charities fees for use of sound recordings in public fell before the General Election. These would have been payable to record companies through Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL).  There were widespread objections and ACRE represented community buildings in negotiations with the IPO (Intellectual Property Office), PPL and PRS (The Performing Rights Society, which is allowed to charge fees for  musicians’ copyright).
